Sonnet 130 - My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun William Shakespeare In Sonnet 130, the speaker describes the woman that he loves in extremely unflattering terms but claims that he truly loves her, which lends credibility to his claim because even though he does not find her attractive, he still declares his love for her. The speaker says that the dark lady's beauty cannot be compared to the beauty of a goddess or to that found in nature, for she is but a mortal human being. The sonnet is generally considered a humorous parody of the typical love sonnet. Petrarch, for example, addressed many of his most famous sonnets to an idealized woman named Laura, whose beauty he often likened to that of a goddess. In contrast Shakespeare makes no attempt at deification of the dark lady; in fact he shuns it outright, as we see in lines 11-12: "I grant I never saw a goddess go; / My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground." Here the poet explicitly states that his mistress is not a goddess. In Sonnet 130 Shakespeare is talking of his mistress, her fault and his feelings about her and her faults. The sonnet is about how love will remain permanent. It assures us that his love is strong even if the woman has flaws. Sonnet 130 asserts the power of love. In the first stanza, the speaker says that his lover's eyes are "nothing like the sun," her lips are less red than coral; compared to white snow, her breasts are dun-colored, this means that her breasts are grey-brown, and her hairs are like black wires on her head. That means that her hair is not smooth nor it is silk. The speaker confirms that his mistress is ordinary when compared to the sun, coral, and snow . She is not as beautiful as these things. In fact, she is quite the opposite, with dark eyes, pale lips, brown breasts, and black hair. In the second quatrain, "I have seen roses damasked, red and white" he explains how he have seen the different changes of color in roses, which he has never seen in her cheeks. As Shakespeare further his comparison of his lover he states that perfume has a more delightful smell that the breath she "reeks". "I love to hear her speak, yet well I know that music hath a far more pleasing sound; I grant I never saw a goddess go; my mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground". He is saying that she is a human being. In these, lines he lets the reader know that even though he love the way she talks, music has a more pleasant sound. Also, although he has never seen a goddess, he knows that goddess doesn't walk on ground. So, his love one cannot be compared to a goddess because she walks on the solid ground. With each quatrain there is a progression of what seems to be a metaphorical mockery on traditional love poems of the period. With her pale cheeks and malodorous breath, Shakespeare seems to be listing all of his mistress' imperfections. His lack of flattery for her is flattery in itself, as he loves her despite her physical faults. The extensive list is detailed into each quatrain. Shakespeare resists the conventional simile "my mistress' eyes are like the sun"; he instead uses a negative simile "my mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun". Shakespeare is mocking the traditional beauty. In the couplet, however, the speaker declares that, "by heaven ," he thinks his love as rare and valuable "As any she belied with false compare"that is, any love in which false comparisons were invoked to describe the loved one's beauty . In those last two lines of the poem, the Volta there is an obvious change in attitude, and showing the point of the poem, the speaker proclaims that his love is "as rare/As any she belied with false compare". Although animal experimentation has been around for centuries, the ethical revival of realization on the moral status of animals began in the 1970’s. This problem was a few among many that had been quietly hidden for years until the 1970’s. Such movements like gaining rights for the oppressed, expressions of antiwar opinions in the U.S.A, and the women’s liberation movement, accompanied the movement for the ending animal experimentation. The animal rights movement has grown more and more complicated through its use of strategy and has successfully brought the issue of laboratory research to the eyes of the public. Another would be that stress caused by animal handling, whether it be because of lack food or water, may have adverse effects on pregnancy or its ability to mate with the opposite sex. Also these tests are too insensitive and tend to disregard learning or behavioral problems. Our plain existence can influence the behavior of animals and disturb activities such as feeding, care- giving, and mating conduct. One law known as Kanjorski’s Law states that any substance (that is tested on an animal) that can harm a fetal embryo in development, can call the validity of the tests into question. Several factors can determine the effects on the results based on the different kind of species that are used during experimentation. The genetic difference between species can affect its ability to defend itself or a difference in the placenta may also affect the animal tests. This act forbade experimentation of tobacco products, washing powders, cosmetics, and the testing of weapons on animals. Ld50 is a lethal dose that painfully kills nearly 50 percent of the animals that it is injected into, and the Draize test which can cause blindness in rabbits. Places such as the UK define each limit as to having a limit that should not be succeeded, and if done so would be a criminal offense. Every decade, animal experimentation could be looked at in a different light and activists will always be there to defend animal rights. (Orleans, Barbara F. This is just one example of how animal experimentation exists everywhere when supervision is missing. It is also about how laws are not enforced to stop such heinous acts of abuse. The usual projects that the students did were, starving animals to death, blinding the animals, mammalian surgery, and the injection of lethal substances. Although, improvements have been made to convince schools to restrict animal testing. Federal laws do not exist. Thus there are no provisions in this area that ban dissection or mistreatment, and the National Association of Biology Teachers are not responsible. However, the amendment made in 1985 to the Animal Welfare Act required a group committee to review how the uses of animals were to be used in the some of the college courses at some but not all. Despite the fact that rats, mice and birds are excluded from the Animal Welfare Act, activist reform groups have just started their mission and are nowhere near the end. (Orleans, Barbara F. One of the most important things that I learnt from there was learning through the professional environment and the development of the staff and students. Every social and health care organization continue to rely on various forms of effective management and leadership techniques—such as continuous learning, staff development, task forces, autonomous work groups, quality circles, and multifunctional leadership—to perform critical functions, lifelong learning is increasingly being referred to as the cornerstone of modern health organisation. In my personal opinion the critical role that learning plays in organizations, more attention has been directed toward staff performance effectiveness (Binnie & Titchen 1995, P: 327-334). Personal learning experience Learning from the professional environment is far different from the class room and educational experience. In the case of professional learning we learn skills through direct practical approaches. At our service, we have rapidly adopted this viewpoint, transforming our entire relationship with the Primary Care Services and Local Authority. Money alone cannot sustain most community-based services. Outcomes also depend on volunteerism. Programs will survive in the long term if they are sustained by the goodness of the human heart and the willingness of people to contribute not only their skills but their time (DUIGMAN, & MACPHERSON, 1992, P: 259-259). The implementation of team managers attending services meeting within the CTPLD services as well as the mental health service to aide communication was acknowledged. It was recommended that all new staff should have a thorough induction and spend time with the individual teams within the wider service to have a in-depth understanding of what each service provides across the service tiers. Evaluation Programs We convened an Operational Management Group that met regularly over the last year. Although we intended to adopt a collaborative leadership style, the task force, my staff and I were all veterans with LD services and we did not easily embrace the experience of collaboration with the other services within learning disability primary care services. The process was new to all and lacked clear aims and objectives. My own lack of patience stands out in my memory (DYER, 1995, P: 189-195). Conclusion After my over all practise and learning the results pinpointed some serious concerns. Social service professionals in particular told us that the less fortunate see the healthcare system as unresponsive, impersonal, and out of reach. Rather than placing importance on the technical quality and breadth of our services, as we might have thought, they expressed an urgent need for specialist services. The community doesn't need any new services, they said; what it needs is access to what already exists.
